PortaPocket Notebook

Oh, Canada!
When my daughter & I were at the GORGEOUS Casa Loma in Toronto at the end of last month, I visited the restroom and went into a random stall and found.... a cell phone balanced atop the toilet paper dispenser. Gah!! Now, you can imagine what that means.
Some woman is (likely) in a foreign country without her cell phone & having a complete meltdown. This is where the phone was:

(I should've taken a pic of it on there), but due to the situation, I rushed through my business and bolted out to shout to anyone there..."Anyone lose your cell?!"
It was with luck the gal who had done so rushed over and was profusely thankful I had found it & returned it to her, but OMG, why does this have to happen all the time? It's 100% preventable.
Travelers, I beg of you... PLEASE don't wait for a really bad moment or circumstance to "get it.
Just GET IT before you go and you will have way more fun with less worry. Seriously.
Love, PortaPocket Gal

A funny thing that's happening on roller coasters now...
Not sure if you heard about this, but the latest apple iWatch and iPhone 14 have a new feature. It's a feature that seems useful, but it's actually creating a new problem unintentionally. While 'smart' electronics often enhance our lives, it seems that in this case it's having an opposite effect.
The issue stems from the new 'crash detection' feature. So when you're on a high speed ride, the sharp movements and drops are seemingly like those one might experience in a car accident. So your apple tech is now summoning the ambulances on your behalf. Oh my!
This is a fail on multiple fronts as any misguided efforts to assist people who don't need emergency services results in a waste of resources. Dispatching people and equipment to unnecessary missions disallows them to be available for more urgent situations where people actually need help.
Some parks that are now aware of this situation have started installing signage to tell patrons to please turn off their cell phones &/or watches, or leave them off the ride altogether. The first step in fixing the problem is always awareness.
It's a start.

Need a portable pocket with those leggings?
While there are many options out there these days, few things actually work.
Here's a tweet from today Feb 25:
@theaptlytitled *ahem* WOMEN’S WORKOUT LEGGINGS NEED POCKETS TOO.
IM **TIRED** OF HAVING TO PUT MY PHONE IN THE WAISTBAND
AND PULLING IT OUT FULL OF SWEAT
This is a common sentiment, and one I see manifesting at the gym all the time.
While some manufacturers are now adding pockets to leggings & yoga pants,
that sweat risk factor always remains. Plus, these pockets often bulge out
while in use, and can get the way while doing certain exercises.
But what if you CAN have effective and attractive pockets?
Ones that work with almost ANY outfit. Wouldn't that be easier?
The problem is that the fixed size & location of pockets in clothes is a
limiting factor. You can't just move things out of your way when you like.
Using PortaPocket releases you from these boundries and brings you
freedom & functionality.
Must have (sweatproof) pockets?
Stop by portapocket.com ...and help yourself!

Amazing catch?
While this definitely qualifies, it begs the question:
Why is this even happening in the first place?Just another reason parks and PortaPocket are destined to become best friends.

xox,

Are you a woman who wants functional pockets, too? Where is #PocketEquality?
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of feeling like a second class citizen.
These are trying times indeed. With the fallout from scandals that have
reared their heads in our society of late, who dare even care about a
subject like pockets?
Certainly, other topics are more relevant. Like the galvanizing and important
#MeToo movement. The horrifying and heinous cases of sexual abuse
perpetrated by prominent individuals. The latest political apocalypse.
And what about those unfair, unequal pay situations?
Yet with all that, here's just another everyday example of women being given
short shrift, and treated as if our needs don't matter. Or, at least, don't matter
as much.
Pockets are power. And guys are holding all the cards. They're getting their
needs catered to by the whole fashion and clothing industry. Why are us
gals being left behind? Is it because women are so often fashion-first?
But what about function? Personally, I'm one who prefers NOT to be a slave
to style. And I actually value function as an equal, if not more important, priority.
Sorry, but I must've missed that memo that said women's clothes have to be
relegated to the not-so-smart category.
So where's the outrage? Looking around, there've actually been a fair number
of articles written up about this very subject. From The Atlantic, to Racked, Buzzfeed,
and more. Feminists have pointedly made their statements, and their wishes known.
At least there's that.
And now, fortunately, there's this.
A new way to do things.
A way of putting pockets on ourSELVES. Literally.
No sewing needed.
Let's eqalize that playing field!
What do you think?
Do you believe there's a pocket shortage in women's clothes?

Is it really Back-to-School time... already??
I sometimes get melancholy when that school bell rings and brings an end to summer. But it's also a fresh start and makes me feel good our daughter is off to new adventures and learning new things.
The start of Junior High can be exciting, but also nerve-wracking for soon to be teenagers trying to navigate through the corridors of life. With a little reassurance, I know my tween will meet her challenges head-on and find self confidence. And it doesn't hurt to know she's always got a part of me with her... every day. xo
p.s. keep that phone in your locker though, sweetheart... rules are rules ;)

Got an insulin pump? Now you can wear it anywhere!
So nice to be at the ADA Diabetes EXPO at McCormick Place in Chicago over this last weekend! We were able to show how PortaPocket pockets handily fit current models of insulin pumps on the market today, including those from Medtronic, Animas, Dexcom, One Touch, and Tandem Diabetes, among others.
It's often a challenge for people with diabetes, whether Type 1 or Type 2, to find comfortable solutions to wear their vital devices. Especially ones that actually work WELL.
PortaPocket is thrilled to serve this community, and provides tools for you to wear your pump (and other things) almost ANYwhere on your body. Our versatile system gives you choices in where and how you wear your pump, whether you want to hide it under a dress/skirt, wear it under a pantleg, or around waist/hip, arm or anywhere else. Our comfy neoprene components (and zero plastic or metal parts) mean it's a dream to use when you sleep at night, too.
Why not enjoy better comfort as you go about your day.
